Children’s Book Illustrator Needed – Watercolor Style | Neurodivergent & Inclusive Design

We are seeking a talented illustrator to help complete and refine The IF Book, a children’s book designed for ages 3–5 that encourages children to associate the word “if” with empowerment, imagination, and agency in their everyday lives. The book is intentionally designed with: Neurodivergent-friendly elements OpenDyslexic font considerations Learning-optimized color palettes Gender-inclusive representation Gentle, encouraging storytelling The creative concept is inspired by a playful reinterpretation of the phrase: “If I had a horse, I’d ride it.” Rather than discouraging imagination, the book encourages children to explore possibility, confidence, and action through imaginative scenarios. Project Scope We currently have draft illustrations and concepts started. We are looking for an illustrator who can: Continue the existing watercolor-esque artistic style Polish and elevate current draft artwork Create cohesive illustrations across the full book Maintain consistency in character design, palette, and emotional tone Book Details Total pages: 32 10 themes/scenes total 6 themes already partially explored in draft form Remaining illustrations and refinements needed Style Requirements We are specifically looking for: Soft watercolor or watercolor-inspired illustration style Warm, whimsical, child-friendly aesthetic Inclusive and emotionally expressive character depictions Simple but engaging compositions appropriate for ages 3–5 Experience illustrating children’s books preferred Deliverables High-resolution print-ready illustrations Editable layered source files preferred Consistent formatting for children’s book layout Ability to collaborate on revisions and visual continuity To Apply See attached design task and instructions.
