Role Overview

The Customer Application & Support Engineer / Field Service Engineer position is a hybrid technical‑service role based out of a home office in the San Francisco Bay Area (or any location within reasonable proximity to a major airport). You will be the primary point of contact for careerzynith’s EBPG customers in Northern California, providing on‑site and remote assistance that spans installation, troubleshooting, upgrades, and training. Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Diagnosis & Solution Delivery: Leverage deep technical knowledge to gather, analyze, and interpret data from customer instruments, translating complex findings into actionable solutions.
  • Collaboration with Engineering Teams: Partner closely with careerzynith Technical Support, Engineering, and Customer Engineering groups to resolve hardware and software challenges quickly and efficiently.
  • Product Expertise & Training: Become the go‑to authority on careerzynith EBPG systems, delivering on‑site training sessions and creating documentation that empowers both internal staff and end‑users.
  • Escalation Management: Provide first‑line and second‑line support for hardware and software issues, escalating to senior engineers when necessary while maintaining clear communication channels.
  • Field Upgrades & Maintenance: Perform scheduled and unscheduled instrument upgrades, preventive maintenance, and repairs to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Status Reporting: Generate regular status updates for supervisors and customers, including detailed reports, test results, and recommendations.
  • Professional Communication: Interact with customers, colleagues, and vendors in a courteous, proactive, and solution‑focused manner, fostering long‑term relationships.
  • Travel Coordination: Manage travel logistics for field assignments across California and, when required, to other locations in the Americas or occasional international sites.

Essential Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
  • Strong documentation skills with a proven track record of producing clear, concise, and accurate technical reports.
  • Hands‑on experience servicing complex scientific equipment, including installation, routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Proficiency with standard test equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analyzers, etc.) and familiarity with precision instrumentation.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively within California and, on occasion, to other U.S. or international locations.
  • Advanced U.S. Military electronics training or a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Applied Science, or a closely related discipline.
  • U.S. citizenship or valid Green Card status (required for compliance with export control regulations).

Preferred Qualifications & Additional Assets

  • Prior experience with electron beam or plasma‑based nanofabrication tools, especially careerzynith EBPG platforms.
  • Exposure to software debugging, firmware updates, and control system integration.
  • Project management experience, including the ability to prioritize multiple field service tickets and meet tight deadlines.
  • Certification in safety standards relevant to high‑voltage or vacuum equipment (e.g., OSHA, IEC).
  • Fluency in a second language (Spanish, Mandarin, etc.) that can enhance communication with diverse customer bases.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning through workshops, conferences, or professional societies.
