Data Analyst I, Analytics Reporting (24 months fixed-term)

Work from home Full-time role Hiring

Notice to applicants: We have seen a rise in recruitment scams. Please note that outreach from Khan Academy recruiters will only come from the @khanacademy.org domain. Our team does not use Gmail or other personal accounts for contacting potential candidates. Khan Academy will never solicit money, equipment fees, or sensitive financial information at any stage of the hiring process. We also do not work with external recruiting agencies, so outreach from headhunters presenting opportunities on behalf of Khan Academy is illegitimate. Please always check the email domain and cross-reference the position with the official Khan Academy Careers page to confirm an opening is valid. ABOUT KHAN ACADEMY Khan Academy is a nonprofit with the mission to deliver a free, world-class education to anyone, anywhere. Our proven learning platform offers free, high-quality supplemental learning content and practice that cover Pre-K - 12th grade and early college core academic subjects, focusing on math and science. We have over 181 million registered learners globally and are committed to improving learning outcomes for students worldwide, focusing on learners in historically under-resourced communities. OUR COMMUNITY Our students, teachers, and parents come from all walks of life, and so do we. Our team includes people from academia, traditional/non-traditional education, big tech companies, and tiny startups. We hire great people from diverse backgrounds and experiences because it makes our company stronger. We value diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging as necessary to achieve our mission and impact the communities we serve. We know that transforming education starts in-house with learning about ourselves and our colleagues. We strive to be world-class in investing in our people and commit to developing you as a professional. THE ROLE Khan Academy is looking for a Data Analyst I (24 months fixed-term) to support high-visibility reporting and dashboarding across the organization. This role will be a key partner to senior leadership and the Philanthropy team, ensuring stakeholders and funders have timely, accurate, and well-explained metrics. We’re looking for someone who enjoys making data usable — clean definitions, consistent reporting, and clear visuals that help people make decisions. Job Responsibilities Produce recurring reporting for senior leadership, including maintaining and updating Monthly Business Review (MBR) slides with company-level KPIs and narrative context (what changed, why it matters, and what to watch next). Build, own, and continuously improve self-serve dashboards for organizations/teams (e.g., Philanthropy and cross-functional leaders), ensuring metrics are clearly defined, quality checked for data issues, well-documented, and trusted. Respond to reporting requests from Philanthropy (including funder reporting), translating questions into clear requirements, pulling the right data, and delivering outputs on schedule. Align on metric definitions, reconcile discrepancies, and partner with data/engineering where instrumentation or pipeline issues impact reporting. Create lightweight analyses to add context to reporting (segmentation, comparisons over time, funnel summaries), and communicate findings in plain language. Improve reporting workflows by templating, documenting processes, and automating repeatable tasks, while shifting toward building AI-powered, self-serve access via AI agents that can respond to stakeholder questions in real time. WHAT YOU BRING A passion for Khan Academy’s mission and a desire to improve educational outcomes through better decision-making. At least 2 years of experience in analytics, business intelligence, or a related role (internships/academic projects welcome). Solid SQL skills (comfortable querying, joining tables, and validating results). Experience building dashboards and visualizations in a BI tool (e.g., Looker, Tableau, Power BI). Interest in or experience with AI tools (e.g., LLMs) and a willingness to learn how to build and iterate on AI-driven solutions (such as internal agents) to scale analytics with a strong sense of “what makes a dashboard actually useful.” Comfort working with spreadsheets and slide decks to present metrics clearly and consistently. Strong attention to detail and a healthy skepticism: you like validating numbers before sharing them widely. Clear communication skills, especially with non-technical stakeholders, and the ability to explain definitions and caveats without making everyone’s eyes glaze over. Ability to manage multiple requests, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines for recurring reporting cycles. Proven cross-cultural competency skills demonstrating self-awareness, awareness of other, and the ability to adopt inclusive perspectives, attitudes, and behaviors to drive inclusion and belonging throughout the organization. Familiarity with Python or R is a plus (helpful for light automation or deeper analysis, but not required). Prior experience in education, nonprofits, or funder-facing reporting is a plus. PERKS AND BENEFITS We may be a non-profit, but we reward our talented team extremely well!
